The House of Angostura, Trinidad and Tobago’s manufacturer of world-renowned products, including the famous Angostura® aromatic bitters and award-winning rums, offers tours to our facilities. Visitors journey through the past to learn the history of this company, which was founded in 1824 by Dr. Johann Siegert, a German physician who resided in Venezuela at the time.
Tours are conducted Monday to Friday, by appointment only, and start with a short film on the company, its history and achievements, and follows up with a visit to our Angostura Museum and the Barcant Butterfly Collection. This impressive collection of over 5,000 specimens of butterflies was started in 1921 by Malcolm Barcant and consists of an array of butterflies that includes over 700 local species.
Much secrecy surrounds the manufacturing of Angostura® aromatic bitters, and as the tour continues, visitors are given a quick glimpse into the Bitters Room, the only place in the world where this product is made. They then hop onto our tour tram, which takes them around our bottling plant and state-of-the-art rum distillery.
The two-hour tour ends with a sampling of some of our world-famous, locally produced brands, which visitors can then purchase from our on-site retail shop. Groups of eight or more persons can book a tour, at least three days in advance, by calling 623-1841 ext. 255 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
