The House of Angostura kicked off its second annual Rum Apétit series with ultra-fine dining events at the Seahorse Inn, Joseph’s Restaurant and Jaffa’s Restaurant back in July and August. The much-anticipated Rum Apétit series showcases the versatility of Angostura’s range of world-famous premium rums. The event more than delivered on its promise, as Trinidad and Tobago’s finest chefs infused their own special recipes with Angostura’s most exclusive rums, while pairing dishes with rums and rum cocktails to enhance the dining experience.
At one memorable session, held at Joseph’s Restaurant in Rookery Nook, Port of Spain, Chef Joseph’s superb four-course dinner included a lamb dish flavoured with delicious hints of prunes, sweet, rounded oak notes, and rich sherry tones of the award-winning Angostura 1787®. His Helinitza shrimp offered nuances of Angostura 1824®, a sensual, quintessentially Trinidadian rum.
Jaffa Restaurant greeted guests with Angostura’s iconic cocktail, known as the Queen’s Park Swizzle. Once his guests were mellow and in the mood, Chef Joe Brown went on to wow them with his Angostura 1919®-infused lobster ragout with chive foam, followed by shrimp and scallop panna cotta, served with Angostura® 7 Year Old. The main course features slow-smoked beef tenderloin with molasses rum sauce, paired with Angostura 1824®.
The events were not only a treat for the senses, but also ensured that guests left more informed and inspired than they were when they arrived. At each event, The House of Angostura’s Chief Mixologist, Raymond Edwards, who holds the prestigious Master of World Spirits from the World Spirits Academy, conducted a mini-masterclass in rums, demonstrating iconic cocktails and explaining the complex nuances of Angostura’s internationally renowned, medal-winning premium rums. They’ll certainly be excited to make use of this new knowledge the next time they replenish their liquor cabinet!
Just two more dining events remain on the Rum Apétit calendar: Krave Restaurant is ready to serve up some surprises on August 30, while Restaurant Chaud is getting set to show off their skills on September 8. For those who relish good food and respect the tradition and indulgence of top-class premium rums, these events are surely not to be missed.
